Nobody needs a rifle that will shoot 30-50 rounds as fast as you can pull the trigger, but before we turn Congress loose on gun control, let's all get educated: Assault Rifles are already banned in the U.S. An AR-15 is not an assault rifle. It's a semi-automatic rifle that will shoot as fast as you can pull the trigger until all the bullets in the magazine are gone. There are 20, 30, 50, and 60 round magazines for sale everywhere and you can exchange an empty one for a full one in a rifle in about 3 seconds.
So DO NOT let these sorry excuses for lawmakers start screaming about "Banning assault rifles" because they'll be lying. As I said, assault rifles are already banned.
What's the solution? I don't know, but I'd love to see DEEP background checks and psych evaluations.
I have several guns of various types, so I'm not anti-gun at all.
I just do not understand how a person can be on the "No Fly List" and still buy an AR-15 or ANY firearm. I don't understand how a person can be under active FBI investigation for radical terrorist ties and still buy a .22 pistol. I don't understand how Amazon.com knows what I might like to have for Christmas, but the ATF doesn't know that somebody is buying 500 rounds of 5.56 at a gun store after having just bought 500 rounds 10 minutes ago at a store around the corner.
What I do know is that this knee-jerk bullshit has got to stop. This pandering to Trump's neo-Nazi lunatics AND the hyper-politically-correct extremist liberal faction has got to stop.
It accomplishes nothing. It's just incendiary--it's designed to fire us up against each other and that way, we get so angry we miss the point.
The point is, we have to stop lunatics from owning guns. Whether they're American-born Muslims who've gone around the bend or bi-polar illegal-immigrants from Canada, we've got to stop them from owning a firearm.
How we do that is up to the lawmakers--and there's a good chance a lot of us won't like what they come up with.
But we can't let them bullshit us anymore.
